Welcome to my corner of avian paradise right in the heart of New Zealand! I’m Irwin Lawson, and I’ve dedicated my passion for photography to capturing the remarkable birdlife that graces my own garden. New Zealand’s bird species are incredibly diverse and unique, and I’ve been fortunate enough to witness their beauty in the comfort of my own backyard.
My garden has become a sanctuary for a wide variety of native birds, and I’ve spent countless hours observing and photographing them in their natural habitat. From the cheerful Tui to the inquisitive Fantail, my lens has aimed to bring you up close and personal with these charming creatures.
Through my photography, I aim to share not only the world of New Zealand birds but to also to inspire others to create bird-friendly spaces in their own gardens. Join me in this journey through the avian wonders that visit my garden, and let’s celebrate the magic of these birds while promoting their well-being and conservation.
We have a pair of Ruru/Morepork (Aotearoa/New Zealand Native Owls) living on our property.
They have been able to produce young every year for the past 6 years.
These birds are unafraid of us and will allow us to get relatively close to them and their fledglings.
It is a great honour to be able to do this.
We have over 26 species of birds either living or often visiting our property in Kerikeri, New Zealand.
It is a dream come true for us as we started with 2 acres of bare land over 20 years ago.
Our goal was to plant the property with mainly subtropical food and shelter species and create garden rooms for us and our wildlife.
We maintain control over pest species using live traps and no poisons.
